AI Tools: Artificial Intelligence i.e. AI is being discussed all over the world, but in this US Congress, AI tools are being banned. The US Congress had earlier prohibited its members from using OpenAI’s ChatGPT and has now also prohibited them from using Microsoft’s AI tool Copilot.
Why was Microsoft’s AI tool banned?
This means that the US Congress has banned these two biggest and popular AI tools of America for its members. According to a report by Axios, this decision has been taken due to major security concerns. US Congressional staff members will not be able to use CoPilot on their government-issued devices. The directive came through a memorandum from House Chief Administrative Officer Catherine Szpindor.
The memorandum raises concerns about the potential risk of data leaks in unauthorized cloud services. These concerns were raised by the Cyber Security Office. However, let us tell you that members of the US Congress can use this Microsoft AI tool Copilot in their personal devices.
What did the Microsoft spokesperson say?
In a statement given to Reuters by a Microsoft spokesperson, it was said, “We recognize that government users need high security for many of their important data. That’s why we’ve announced a roadmap for Microsoft AI tools like Copilot that meet the federal government’s security and other requirements, which we expect to introduce later this year.
House Chief Administrative Chief Katherine L. Szpindor wrote in the memo that lawmakers and staff can now only use ChatGPT Plus, the paid version of OpenAI’s AI chatbot, due to its better privacy features. He said officers can use ChatGP Plus only for “research and evaluation” with the privacy settings activated.
